Performance Oil Mods
You may be surprised to find that you can add power by changing the oiling system. Several horsepower are lost to friction in the bearings, and more are used up if too much oil sticks to the crankshaft. Switching to a thinner oil, particularly a synthetic one, can reduce friction. Further gains can come from installing a crankshaft scraper or windage tray in the oil pan, which removes the oil from the crank and returns it to the oil sump. Having the crank hit the oil can both churn the oil into foam and create more resistance to the crank turning.
