Scoops
There are many parts of a car that need fresh, cold air. The engine often benefits from picking up cold outside air. Brakes last longer with air for cooling. Radiators and other equipment also need to have a ready source of airflow. The way to provide this is through properly placed scoops and inlets. An inlet is simply an opening in the bodywork, while scoops stick up to catch incoming air. Either one can create a “ram air” effect at high speeds, where the speed causes the pressure of the incoming air to rise. This can add a few horsepower if ducted down the intake of your engine, but you must take care to prevent the pressure from leaking out.
