Road racers often use considerably more aerodynamic mods than drag racers if the rules allow. While drag cars need most of their traction only at low speeds, a road racer needs full grip all the time for cornering. Preventing lift and creating downforce are critical. Road race cars often use airdams, splitters, spoilers, ground effects, and small-to-medium sized wings to keep the tires planted firmly at both ends. Many popular street body kits over the years have taken their cues from road race cars, from the wide-fendered look of the late ’70s to the ’90s-era Veilside kits.
