Side skirts are designed to continue the work of the airdam by restricting air from flowing in from the sides to the low-pressure area created by the airdam. Having the side skirts reach lower increases their effectiveness, but also makes them more vulnerable to road damage. Other than that, there is not much more to selecting side skirts than to choose a set that matches the aesthetics of your car well, or one that complies with the rule book, if you’re going racing.
