Most original engine mounts use rubber cushions to absorb engine vibrations. This makes for a comfortable driving experience, but the softness of the rubber can be a problem for performance driving. Original equipment mounts can bend enough under acceleration for the engine to rock side to side, and adding more power can make them bend even more. I have driven one car where the original engine mounts were so soft that the shift knob would move nearly an inch just by going from full throttle to letting off the gas, and that was with a stock engine.
