As the name suggests, a block cipher encrypts the entire block of data at a time.
Many of the modern block ciphers tend to encrypt data in a block size of 128 bits (16 bytes).
The most popular block cipher used in the industry is AES.

In this case, a single block contains eight partitions and the entire block is taken and encrypted.
