It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Choosing the right identity provider
There are two important entities involved in an IdP—authentication and passing the SAML assertion based on authorization.
IdP must authenticate the user. In order to do so, it must be connected to some sort of LDAP database that would contain the username and passwords stored to verify whether the user's credentials are right or wrong:
