So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
RTL-SDR for GSM analysis
You can also use RTL-SDR for a number of other purposes. One such usage is performing cellular analysis, as shown next. We will be using the RTL-SDR to find the exact location details about various cellphone users. This can then be used with a unidirectional antenna to increase the range and collect a good amount of information.
- To do this, launch grgsm_livemon, which is downloadable from https://github.com/ptrkrysik/gr-gsm/. Launch it as shown in the following screenshot:
- This will open a screen of grgsm_livemon allowing you to change gain and frequency in order to look at the frequency spectrum:
