Current
As we discussed in the previous scenario, the current flows (in the preceding case because of the medium being a copper conductor) when there is a difference in voltages and it will continue flowing until both the sides have equal amounts of electrons and protons.
A current could either be an alternating current (AC) or a direct current (DC), which simply means that if the current is flowing at a constant rate, such as in batteries, it would be a DC, whereas if it is alternating or changing with time, it is an AC. For example, in the United States, the default power that you get from a power outlet is 120V and 60Hz AC.
