22章メトリクス駆動型コスト最適化
メトリクス駆動型コスト最適化（MDCO：Metric-Driven Cost Optimization）は、最適化の推進力となります。MDCOは、潜在的な最適化を測定し、そして最適化のための運用プロセスを進めるための目標と数値ターゲットを設定します。組織がコミットメント型プランを購入している場合、すでにOperateフェーズにあります。MDCOを用いて、行動するときに適切な決定のためにメトリクスの閾値を使用します。
MDCOはまた、「クラウドコスト管理に対する怠け者のアプローチ」と表現することもできます。MDCOの主要なルールは「何もしないこと」です。つまり、自分の行動による影響を測定するメトリクスを定義するまで、何もしないということです。最適化をしようとして、支出が有益なのか無益なのかを説明できるメトリクスがないのであれば、MDCOを行っていることにはなりません。

22.1 基本原則
MDCO実践を定義するいくつかの基本原則があります。
- 自動測定
- 測定はコンピューターによって行われ、人間によってではない。
- ターゲット
- ターゲットがなければ、メトリクスは単なるきれいなグラフにすぎない。
- 達成可能な目標
- 現実的な成果を決定するためにデータを適切に理解することが必要である。
- データ駆動型
- 活動によってをデータを推進しているのではなく、データによって行動するように推進する。

22.1.1 自動測定
