10.2 The FAST/ADL Model 251

Built-in artifacts are objects that have well-deﬁned architectural semantics such

as caches,memory units,and register ﬁles. Built-in artifacts are directly supported by

ADL++ as built-in types. The programmer can use them by simply declaring objects

of these types in an ADL++ program. Access to built-in artifacts takes the form of

assignments to and from the artifact variables. Different implementations of these

components can be used by specifying different attribute values for the artifacts.
