3.1 INTRODUCTION

3.1.1 Origin of the Language

In the early seventies of the last century, Gerhard Zimmermann headed a group of

researchers at the radio astronomy observator y of the University in Kiel, Germany.

The observatory was used to measure the radio signals from the sun. The goal was

to enhance our understanding of processes in the sun by monitoring the signals at a

resolution of about 2 milliseconds at various frequencies and analyzing the results.
