Interacting with Your Interactive Whiteboard

After your hardware is connected and you have all the required software, you can begin playing with your new interactive whiteboard. As you begin using the interactive whiteboard, you’ll be amazed by all the tools and functionalities bundled to create fantastic presentations and collaborate with others anywhere in the world. You’ll also see how simple and intuitive the tools can be. Read on, and I show you how to use them.

As soon as you start your computer that’s connected to the interactive whiteboard, the interactive whiteboard becomes touch sensitive, and you can start using your finger instead of the mouse. You can press anywhere on the interactive surface to interact with objects or menus — just as you do with a mouse click. For example, if you want to open a web browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox, press the icon twice, rapidly, to launch the application. And if you need to activate a drop-down list, just press the arrow or title in the menu.

If you’re not convinced of how easy it is to use, I’ll walk you through a little exercise so I can prove it to you. Try this:

1. Press the SMART Board icon in the Windows notification area (Windows) or in the Dock (Mac).

A menu appears.

2. Press Notebook.

SMART Notebook software opens. (I cover the software extensively in Part II of this book.)

3. Using your finger, tap the Pen icon on the toolbar, and write something in the white workspace.
