How Does a SMART Board Interactive Whiteboard Actually Work?
The technology behind your SMART Board interactive whiteboard is pretty cool. The interactive whiteboard is connected to a computer via a USB cable, which provides power. The driver (software that lets your computer talk to peripheral hardware) automatically switches on when the computer is turned on, and as long as the driver is running, the interactive whiteboard is active. A digital projector is connected to your computer and projects the computer image onto the interactive whiteboard. If you’re using a SMART Board interactive flat panel (which is just like an interactive whiteboard but based around a TV instead of a projector), the computer image appears on the display panel and the drivers are able to convert contact with the display into mouse clicks and/or electronic ink. This is the cool part, because it allows you to use your fingers to write on the interactive surface and write over applications such as Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint slides, or SMART Notebook pages.
