So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Introducing SMART Ink
SMART Ink is a new and very different approach to using digital ink on an interactive whiteboard. The biggest change from Ink Aware programs is that it doesn’t matter what software you’re using — the SMART Ink features are available regardless of whether the program is Ink Aware. SMART Ink is included with SMART Notebook version 11 and SMART Meeting Pro version 3 (more about those programs later).
With SMART Ink, whenever you start a program on your computer, a SMART Ink toolbar appears in the title bar of the program screen. It has a drop-down arrow that opens a small menu of basic, intuitive features like ink colors, highlighter tools, and erasers. It also has a Capture button that takes a snapshot of your screen and opens it in SMART Notebook software.
To find out about SMART Ink, the best thing to do is play! Open any program — say, your web browser — and look for the SMART Ink toolbar. Click the drop-down arrow and pick an ink color. With either your finger or a Pen Tray pen, do a little scribble on the website you’re viewing. Then pick a different color and do another squiggle. Now click the Select icon from the drop-down menu and resize your browser window. Check out how the ink stays where you put it. Try dragging one of your squiggles to a different spot. Then move the window again. Last, select Capture from the drop-down menu and check out how the screenshot appears in SMART Notebook software.
