vCenter Watchdog
The vCenter Watchdog is a process that monitors a subset of vCenter services and tries to restart them in case of a failure. The protected services are as follows:
- HTTP Reverse Proxy
- vCenter Web Services (vws)
- vCenter Server Service (vpxd)
The vCenter Watchdog process is enabled by default on the Windows edition of vCenter Server, as well as within the appliance. Two attempts are made to restart the monitored services. If the restart fails both times, the whole VM gets rebooted. The restart of the whole VM can be disabled, as described in the KB article found at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2127930.
