Timing estimate (P2V/V2V timing)

Using the P2V/V2V Conversion method recommended, the data of the source server will pass over the network fabric. It is assumed that the slowest link between the source and destination hosts will be 1 GBPS. Given that there will be other network traffic to compete with, it is assumed that migrations can achieve approximately 20 MB per second (field-based experience).

Assuming that there is 200 GB of disk per server for the calculations, we can also assume that the 200 GB will be about 60% utilized. The V2V process does not transfer whitespace, so this free space will be factored into the calculations:

Average Disk x Disk Utilisation = Total Amount of Data to Transfer per VM
