Availability

You get maximum availability since the virtual machine has been decoupled from the hardware. If the hardware fails, then the operating system and applications running on it could crash in the physical infrastructure. Virtual machines can be restarted on the remaining hosts in a cluster in the event of a failure of a host, or you can create an active-active cluster for all critical virtual machines where you need zero data loss and zero downtime. You can use these features along with vMotion to take a host offline for maintenance (planned or unplanned downtime) without affecting workloads in the cluster.
