Swap file location

Swap files are created whenever a virtual machine is powered on. The size of the swap file depends on the amount of RAM and reservations that have been configured. By default, they are stored in the same directory as the rest of the virtual machine configuration. However, this can be changed. There are two main alternatives for the swap file location:

• Local storage, with the virtual machine files on shared storage
• Dedicated shared storage, but not with the virtual machine files

The location depends on the business requirements of the organization. Relocating the virtual machine swap file can have an impact on the following:
