Once you hit Finish, all of the settings and configuration details are consolidated and passed onto the ESXi host in the cluster to create the actual virtual machine. In essence, the set of files described earlier in this chapter get created and a virtual server hardware is carved out and abstracted from the physical hardware. The virtual machine administrator can now install a guest operating system following any of the traditional methods, such as mapping an ISO file, CD drive, or PXE based installation.
