It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
How it works...
We shall walk through this with a typical use case of testing a patch.
In a hypothetical situation, an administrator needs to deploy a patch on Windows 2012/R2 systems across the data center. As a rule of thumb, these have to be tested in the test and dev cluster VMs and observed for stability before implementing in production:
Here would be the typical workflow:
- Virtual machine is at a known good configuration state.
- Admin takes a snapshot of the virtual machine.
- Installs the patch on the guest OS and observes the VM for 24 hours for stability.
- Are there application crashes, errors, or warnings in the event logs or user reported ...
