Recalling What It Felt Like When You First Started
As you become more comfortable doing your job, you can easily forget what it was like when you started. But remembering how you felt when you shot your first few weddings can help you relate to your second shooter and foster a great business relationship down the road.
Think back to when you photographed your first wedding. If you’re anything like me, you were a ball of nerves. If your second shooter is doing her first (or even second) wedding, try to put yourself in her shoes. She may make mistakes and may not take the most amazing pictures, but I encourage you to be kind and understanding.
I also encourage you to give your second shooters a chance to grow. Be approachable when they ask you questions about how you handle situations during a wedding, or what settings you use on your camera at different times during the day. When you’re in the midst of shooting, give your second shooters a chance to take a picture as well.
