It’s Showtime! Shooting the Ceremony

When the wedding preparations are done, it’s go time. The ceremony is the pivotal event during the wedding day, so you want to make sure you capture all the important moments that take place. You don’t get second chances with most of these shots! In this section I go over what happens during a typical ceremony and give you a list of photos you’ll want to take.

remember.eps Some officiants or venues have very specific rules about the use of flash during a ceremony and how close the photographer can get. It is important to ask about these kinds of stipulations in advance so that you don’t have any surprises on the day of the wedding. If you have to work around rules, come prepared with an alternate plan, such as a lens with a very large aperture (in case you can’t use flash) or a telephoto zoom lens (in case you can’t get close to the stage).

Putting the processional in pictures

remember.eps After the guests are seated and the music starts to play, get yourself ready to photograph the processional by heading up to the front of the aisle. Choose a spot at the front of the room that has a clear view of the aisle, but make sure that you’re not in the way of the incoming bridal party and bride.
