Collaborating with Other Wedding Vendors

A whole team of creative people is needed to pull off a wedding. Other than a photographer, most weddings also include a cake designer, wedding planner, florist, hair stylist, makeup artist, and videographer. A great way to get your business noticed is not only to reach out to new clients but also to make friendships with other vendors in your industry. In the following sections, I go over a couple of ways to work with vendors in your area and how doing so can be mutually beneficial.

Getting to know other vendors in your area

You may be wondering how reaching out to vendors, rather than just new clients, can help you to build your business. I mention the importance of referrals in the earlier section Relying on Word of Mouth, and working with other vendors in the industry can provide another source of referrals. For example, say you build a friendship with an established wedding planner in your area. That wedding planner books a new wedding, and the couple asks her if she knows of any good photographers. Having a good relationship with the wedding planner can result in a possible referral to your photography business.

Similarly, if you book a wedding first, couples may ask you for the names of cake designers, florists, DJs, and so on, and you can tell them about the vendors you’ve built relationships with. It’s a win-win situation for everyone!
