The root CA in a PKI can have more subordinate CAs. It will create a PKI hierarchy and the number of subordinate CAs is based on the organization requirements. There are two main types of hierarchical design: two-tier and three-tier. These will be explained in the next section in detail, but here, what I want to emphasize is that selecting the correct hierarchy model will reduce operational costs and resource waste.
