I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Overview of Azure SQL Database
Azure SQL Database is Microsoft's transactional database offering for Cloud Computing based on SQL Server 2012. SQL Database extends SQL Server capabilities to the cloud by offering relational data services called Microsoft SQL database. With SQL Database you can easily create, deploy, and manage relational database solutions in the cloud.
SQL Database is one of the main components of the Windows Azure Platform and as such includes many of the benefits provided by the Azure platform, including manageability, high availability, scalability, and the well-known relational data model.
Entire books have been written on SQL Database, and it is difficult to cover all the great aspects of SQL Database. This chapter covers some of the aspects of managing SQL Database and migrating data to SQL Database, and some of the benefits of SQL Database, such as high availability and scalability.
This chapter is going to make certain assumptions, including the assumption that you have provisioned a SQL Database server and are somewhat familiar with the Windows Azure Management Portal.
