Summary
SQL Database is a big topic; this chapter was not intended to provide a deep examination of SQL Database, but to provide a quick primer into subject, with a focus on data management and the great benefits surrounding this great relational database hosted as a Platform as a Service (PaaS) service.
This chapter began by providing an overview of what SQL Database is and why it exists, as well as the great benefits that come with it, including high-availability and scalability, which are offered as free functionality for the low cost of your database; hard to do in an on-premise environment.
Yet, the majority of this chapter spent some time discussing migration options. Understanding how to migrate your on-premise database to SQL Database becomes all too important. There are a number of options and this chapter highlighted a couple, primarily focusing on the Generate Scripts wizard to provide a method of helping you understand what is supported in SQL Database and better understand the other migration options.
