This chapter presented an overview of Management Data Warehouse and how to configure it. Management Data Warehouse helps collect and analyze resource utilization, activity, and trends on your server. MDW makes it easy to quickly identify server performance issues with minimal configuration efforts.
You can create custom data collectors to capture important metrics, such as index fragmentation levels, and schedule them to run at different intervals during the day. The collection of these data may allow database administrators to see trends in fragmentation levels throughout the day that could justify an index reorganize or index rebuild operation.
