LEGAL SIGNATURE AUTHORITY
The ability of individuals to make binding legal commitments for the business needs to be carefully controlled. Individuals who have this authorization must be clearly identified. When executing binding documents, a two-step process needs to be used. The first step is the review of the document by a person with the skills to perform a subject review, and the second step is the actual signing of the document by a person with the authority to do so. These steps can be accomplished by two separate individuals, but legal signature authority is required for step 2. Managers who have the authority to perform step 2 need to understand that step 1 should never be skipped.
