Monitoring network performance and utilization is an important part of performance management. A number of tools are available to monitor network performance, as well as the configuration functionality. Since performance monitoring is covered in Chapter 14, those tools will not be covered in this chapter.
The ifconfig command, shown earlier in this chapter, provides information on virtual networks as well as physical network devices. In addition to the physical devices (eth0, eth1, eth2, etc.) and the Xen bridges (xenbr0, xenbr1, xenbr2, etc.), a device is shown for each virtual machine’s network.
