Physical Machines
Part of the conversion software that Oracle has provided as part of Oracle VM includes the ability to convert a physical machine to a virtual machine. This process involves booting the Oracle VM installation CD-ROM and performing steps to convert the system from a physical machine to a virtual machine. The basic steps for creating a virtual machine image from a physical machine are as follows:
1. Boot the Oracle VM Server CD-ROM to the P2V utility.
2. Configure the network of the booted image.
3. Configure settings for the new virtual machine.
4. Run the P2V utility from the VM Manager to import the virtual machine.
