Sharp Foreground, Blurred Background
This is a technique that’s usually done with a camera, but it doesn’t have to be. Basically, you’re blurring a copy of the photo,
then erasing the blurred areas where you want to retain detail, giving a simple depth-of-field effect that focuses on an object.
STEP ONE: Open the photo that you
want to apply the effect to. Go under
the Layer menu, under New, and choose
Layer via Copy (or press Control-J) to
duplicate the Background layer in the
Layers palette.
STEP TWO: Go under the Filter menu,
under Blur, and choose Gaussian Blur.
