TV Scan Lines
This technique, which simulates the scan lines that a television produces when photographed with a camera, remains one of the
most popular effects in print, on TV, and on the Web.
STEP ONE: Open the image in which you
want to apply TV scan lines—either RGB
or Grayscale will work. Create a new doc-
ument that’s 1 pixel wide by 4 pixels high
in the same resolution and color mode as
your open image (e.g., if you want to add
scan lines to an RGB image, choose RGB).
STEP TWO: Press Z to switch to the
Zoom tool and zoom in on this tiny doc-
ument until it’s easily seen (you might
have to zoom
