This twist on the classic drop shadow effect adds realism in two ways: (1) It casts a shadow that’s more like what an actual light
source would cast; and (2) the shadow has a bit of a harder edge near the object but gets softer as it moves away.
Perspective Cast Shadow
STEP ONE: Open the image of an object
that you want to give a perspective cast
shadow to. Put a selection around the
object (here I Shift-clicked the Magic
Wand tool [W] on all the white back-
ground areas, went under the Select
menu, and chose Inverse to select just
