Setting Up for Faxing

Faxing is a function that Microsoft has added to and taken out of Windows with practically every version. We're on the “added to” part of the cycle now: Windows XP has faxing capability built in, and it's quite nice. If your computer has a compatible modem installed, you can use it to send and receive faxes.

To send a fax from Windows XP, you can write a document using your favorite application, choose the Fax icon from the printer folder, and print. Or, you can use the Scanner and Camera Wizard to scan and fax hardcopy documents. In either case, Windows prompts you for the appropriate fax phone number and makes the call.
