It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Troubleshooting Power Management Problems
Windows XP supports several levels of power management. On systems that are fully compliant with the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) specification, the operating system manages most power-related functions. ACPI is installed on your system (during setup) only if all components are in compliance. On systems that are not ACPI-compliant but use an Advanced Power Management (APM) BIOS, Windows still provides power management, but it is not as extensive as an ACPI-based system. If ACPI and APM are not supported, Windows can still support some power management functions, but they are very limited.
