How it works...

There are really two ways to make a cmdlet accept input through the pipeline. Each of these two ways has two sub-ways to accept input, so to speak:

• Accept input by type:
  • With coercion
  • Without coercion
• Accept input by parameter name:
  • With coercion
  • Without coercion

In this recipe, we will make the cmdlet accept input without coercion. In this case, the data type of the Path parameter is the same as the content being passed through the pipeline: a string array. In the case of accepting input with coercion, PowerShell will try to convert the content passed through the pipeline to the type that is accepted by the parameter, such as a valid date-like string to a datetime object.
