How to do it...

We will perform two activities in this recipe, one using PowerShell cmdlets and the other using Docker CLI commands:

1. Define a variable, called repo, which contains the repository names. This will become part of the repo URLs:

PS> $repo='centos'

2. Use the Invoke-WebRequest cmdlet to extract useful information from a web page, and use the ConvertFrom-Json cmdlet to convert the web page data from JSON into a PowerShell object:

PS> Invoke-WebRequest https://registry.hub.docker.com/v1/repositories/$repo/tags | ConvertFrom-Json | Select-Object -Property *

3. Assign the output to a variable, say, $result:

PS> $result = Invoke-WebRequest https://registry.hub.docker.com/v1/repositories/$repo/tags | ConvertFrom-Json | Select-Object ...
