PCM needs a four bit signaling for voice “call processing.” To accommodate
this four bit signaling of each channel (for 30 channels, 4 × 30 = 120 bits
are required, which will be quite a large burden on a single frame, and as
such cannot obviously be accommodated), a concept of multiframe has been
deployed in E1 multiplexing. The four bit signaling has been catered for two
channels in one frame (8 bits of the TS), thus making a total of 15 frames,
