10.17.2 STM-1 Level Multiplexing
Another way to form a higher level STM is to byte multiplex the STM-1s
after they are completely formed as STM-1s, i.e., the overheads are added
to the AUGs. In this case, the overhead bytes have to be dened freshly, as
the STM-N so formed has to work on a single set of overhead bytes (see the
STM-4 overhead in the next section). Figure 10.54 illustrates the principle.
This is the type of multiplexing that is normally deployed. The frame
