this information?
The purpose of monitoring the number of errors is twofold:
(i) To check the system for possible faults and initiate corrective action
before the complaint is received from the customer.
(ii) To take the circuit out of service if the quality is very poor and pro-
vide an alternative link to the customer.
Decision (ii) is taken if the number of errors crosses a preset threshold level.
The threshold can be set during or after the installation through themanage-
