The telecommunication started with voice or speech of one person reaching
another person at a distance that was beyond the range of the direct sound.
The point-to-point local telephone was invented by Alexander Graham
Bell in 1876. The need to talk to more people gave birth to manual tele-
phone exchange, and subsequently, to automatic telephone exchanges, and
our need to talk tothe people in other cities gave birth to the long-distance
