I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Balance Priorities
Problem: Your community has limited time and resources, but it has limitless ideas for work to be done.
How do you correctly allocate limited resources across the community? You balance priorities. Balance doesn’t mean fixing a static allocation forever. Similar to shifting your weight as you walk, balancing priorities is a dynamic activity.
Having a broader context, even beyond the scope of your community, is crucial to finding the balance. People will naturally focus on their own work. The deeper they work on something, the more their focus narrows. That’s fine, but it can mean they lose the broader context. I’m sure you can think of a time when someone you were working with (or perhaps you) got so immersed in the details ...
