Problem: You have a release target set, but you don’t know what steps it takes to get there.

After you have defined “done,” the act of building the schedule is largely the same: picking the milestones you want and how far before the release day they should fall. In this section, we’ll look at some key milestones to add to the schedule. The true value of the schedule is in the steps that build up to the end date and the dependencies between those steps. The schedule tells your community what they need to do and the degree to which the deadlines are met on time tells you how the release is going.
