I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Keep the Schedule Accurate
Problem: You missed a milestone, so the schedule is no longer accurate.
Your job isn’t over when the schedule is done. When have you ever been a part of something that has gone exactly to plan? As time progresses, reality has a way of diverging from what you expected. It’s up to you as the program manager to notice this divergence and act on it.
Why might the schedule become wrong? The most common problem is that it took longer than expected to do the work. Estimates are hard. I had a professor who liked to say “multiply your estimate by three and then you’ll only be half as wrong.” That’s a little cynical, but it highlights a good point: you’ll almost always underestimate how long something takes.
