ENCOURAGING THE CLIENT TO TAKE SOME ACTION OF THE CLIENT’S CHOOSING
Here the Guide is stating a bias for action. This is encouragement for the client to take the plunge, to move from considering a possibility to committing to it. The Guide isn’t suggesting or contributing ideas for the action to the client, but she is an advocate for movement in a direction of the client’s choosing.
Often the impetus for movement will come from the client. This may derive from dissatisfaction with the status quo, the excitement and energy generated by having a new picture of a desired future, or a combination of both. The work has already been done. All the coach needs to do is provide encouragement and support.
