LEARNING FROM YOUR REFLECTION
While we often seek to act as mirrors for our clients, reflecting back to them what we hear and observe about their concerns and behavior, our clients are also mirrors for ourselves. The more we see ourselves in our clients, the more compassion we are able to hold. But it is also true that the more we see ourselves in our clients, the more likely it is that we’ll project our own concerns onto them or otherwise blur the boundaries between our issues and theirs. The reflection of ourselves in our clients is both a source of connection and a challenge to our mindfulness practice. The three exercises in this section will support you in getting clearer about these connections.
