Synopsis
The look and feel of the Start menu, a component of Windows Explorer (discussed in Chapter 4), can be controlled with the following settings. See also Desktop and Windows Explorer.
- Start menu, button look and feel
Control Panel → Display → Appearance tab → Windows and buttons list
- Start menu, clear list of recently opened applications
Control Panel → Taskbar and Start Menu → Start Menu tab → Customize → General tab → Clear List
- Start menu, enable dragging and dropping (Classic Start menu only)
Control Panel → Taskbar and Start Menu → Start Menu tab → Customize → “Advanced Start menu options” section → Enable Dragging and Dropping
- Start menu, enable dragging and dropping (XP Start menu only)
Control Panel → Taskbar and Start Menu → Start Menu tab → Customize → Advanced tab → “Start menu items” section → Enable Dragging and Dropping
- Start menu, hide infrequently accessed applications (Classic Start menu only)
