Because of economic uncertainty, employers are reluctant to hire. As a result, they demand more of their existing staff. That means longer workdays. A worker called me to ask if it was legal for his boss to extend employees’ quitting time by an hour and require them to take a two-hour lunch so the company avoids paying overtime. It’s legal.
