WHEN CONGRESSIONAL INTERN CHANDRA LEVY DISAPPEARED IN
the spring of 2001, Congressman Gary Condit at first refused to
discuss the case. When he eventually talked, he claimed that his
relationship with the young political intern had been strictly pla-
